Ashland University to much for Lady Pioneers

The young Lady Pioneers ran into a senior laden squad from Ashland University last night as they dropped their season opener, 80-41 from Kates Gymnasiums.  GSC was plaqued by 27 turnovers and poor shooting as they felled behind early and were unable to recover, as they were without the services of 2nd Team All WVIAC performer, Junior G Donita Adams.

Adams, out with a stress fracture, will likely miss the first couple weeks of the season.

Senior G Mallory Menendez was the only Pioneer in double figures as she scored 18.  Menendez connected on 5 of 10 from the field, including 4 of 8 from behind the arc.

Ashland would open on the game on an 8-0 run over the first 3:30 of the game.  A jumper by Sophomore Post Kim Stephens and a 3pt FG by Freshmen G Beth Deren quickly brought the lead back to five at 10-5 at the 15:05 mark.

The Eagles would then go on a 22-6 run over the next 10 minutes to blow the game open.

GSC would not lay down as they would finish the half on a 13-6 run to cut the lead to 14 at 38-24.

The struggles would continue to open the 2nd half as Glenville would score just six points over the opening ten minutes.  The Eagles lead would grow from 14 to 36 over that span to put the game out of reach.

Deren would add seven points and Freshmen G Cierra Jones would chip in six.

Glenville State returns to action on Wednesday, November 19th as they travel to Erie, PA to take on Mercyhurst.  Tipoff is 7 p.m.
