Lady Pioneers Down Fairmont State, 66-51

The Glenville State Lady Pioneers jumped out to early lead and never looked back as they upset the visiting 10th ranked Falcons of Fairmont State, 66-51 tonight at Lilly Gymnasium. Donita Adams led four Pioneer starters in double figures with 18 points and six rebounds. Senior Karina Kendrick notched her 11th double-double as she had 16 points and 16 rebounds. Mallory Menendez added 14 and Kristen Golden chipped in 12 points and eight rebounds as the Lady Pioneers even their recorded at 9-9 and 7-4 in WVIAC play.

The Falcons were paced by a game high 20 points from Ashley Vavrek as she connected on 5 of 10 three point attempts. Jaimie Merinar added 12 points and Danielle Cornish chipped in 10 for the Lady Falcons as they dropped their second straight to fall to 15-3 and 9-2 in the WVIAC. 
The Lady Pioneers would start strong again tonight as Adams would score seven in the opening run as they quickly jumped to a 12-2 lead just 3:30 into the game. Back to back 3’s by Vavrek and Trisha Uhl would quickly cut the deficit to four at12-8 with 13:58 remaining in the half.   
GSC would then go on a 14-0 run over the next three minutes to break open the contest and stretch the lead to 18. The run was fueled by back to back Menendez threes, a triple buy Christine DiSabato, three-point play from Adams and a slashing layup by Kendrick. 
GSC would never look back as their lead would get no closer then 12 the rest of the way out.
For the game the Lady Pioneers shot 48 percent from the field and they held a plus 12 rebounding advantage, 40-28.
Glenville State also held a plus three turnover advantage 15-12.
The win was the 88th out of the last 90th games played at Jesse R. Lilly Gymnasium, including 24straight wins. 
The Lady Pioneers look to make it four in a row as they play host to the Tigers of Salem International. Tip Off this Saturday is at 5:30pm.
