GSC Student Teachers Placed in Area Schools

Nineteen senior Education majors from Glenville State College are completing their student teaching internships at area schools.

Kristy Michele Abel is completing her student teaching in Business Education at Gilmer County Middle/High School under cooperating teachers Lora Chapman and Sara Dennison. Dr. Kevin Cain and Don Sheets are Abel’s GSC supervisors. She is the daughter of Teresa McCumbers of Rosedale.

Jennifer Rose Bennett is completing her student teaching in Music Education at Shady Spring Elementary School under cooperating teacher Mark Campbell and at Shady Spring High School with teacher John A. Deskins. Francis Fry, Teresa Dody, and David Lewis are Bennett’s GSC supervisors. She is the daughter of Dennis and Betty Bennett of Hinton.

Holly Moss-Boone has been student teaching in Elementary Education at the Wirt County Primary Center with teacher Betsy Bell and in English at Wirt County Middle School under teacher Karen Offutt. Dr. Gayle Burkowski and Shelly Ratliff are Boone’s GSC supervisors. She is the daughter of Eddy and the late Rebecca Moss of Spencer. She and her husband Travis reside in Harrisville.

Holly Brook Cecil is completing her student teaching in Early Education at Spencer Elementary School under cooperating teacher Betty Greenawald and in Elementary Education with fourth grade teacher Diane Zdanek. Shelly Ratliff is her GSC supervisor. She is the daughter of Kathy and Destry Daniels of Belington, West Virginia and Buck Cecil of Beverly, West Virginia. She is engaged to Bryan Daniel Bush (GSC December 2009 graduate) of Leroy, West Virginia.

Tashauna Ann Hurst-Chapman is student teaching in Elementary Education at Davis Elementary School with teacher Diana Hall and in Multi-Categorical Special Education at Clay Elementary School with teacher Rebecca Boggs. Mary Bland Strickland is Chapman’s GSC supervisor. She and her husband Channing reside in Servia. Chapman is the daughter of Hank and Sherry Hurst of Gassaway.

Andrew M. Ferraro of Avondale, Pennsylvania is doing his student teaching in Social Studies at Gilmer County High School with teacher Karen McClain and at Lewis County High School under teacher Jeanie Piercy. Dr. Michael Gherke, Dr. John Taylor, and Don Sheets are Ferraro’s GSC supervisors.

Sonja Grace Hartshorn is completing her student teaching in Elementary Education at Arnoldsburg Elementary School with teacher Janice Westfall and in Multi-Categorical Special Education at Normantown Elementary School with teacher Heather Phares, Tara Cosco is Hartshorn’s GSC supervisor. She and her husband Andrew reside in Shock. Hartshorn is the daughter of Ellen Minney of Shock.

Amanda Gail Bever-Hendershot is completing her student teaching in Early Education at Peterson Elementary School under cooperating teacher Beth Linger and in Elementary Education at Jane Lew Elementary School with teacher Tina Garska. Shelly Ratliff and Dr. John Taylor are Hendershot’s GSC supervisors. She is the daughter of Clyde and Rosemary Bever of Craigsville, West Virginia. She and her husband Daren, formerly of Glenville, reside in Weston.

JoAutumn Nicole Hill of Green Bank is completing her student teaching in Elementary Education at Glenville Elementary School with teacher Kim Freeland and in Special Education at Braxton County Middle School under cooperating teacher Stella Varthyanos. Tara Cosco is Hill’s GSC supervisor. She is the daughter of Johnny and Renee Hill of Green Bank.

Jessica Dawn Jaffre is student teaching in Elementary Education at Burnsville Elementary School with teacher Patty Montgomery and in English Education at Braxton County High School under teacher Brenda Gibson. Dr. Gayle Burkowski and Francis Fry are Jaffre’s GSC supervisors. She is the daughter of Judy Jaffre of Stouts Mills.

Parkersburg South High School graduate Kindra Nicole Davis-Kidd is completing her student teaching in Elementary Education at Mineral Wells Elementary School under cooperating teacher Daneen Moore and in Early Education at Wirt County Primary Center with teacher Brenda Metz. Shelly Ratliff is Kidd’s GSC Supervisor. She is the daughter of Judy and Dewey Davis of Parkersburg. She and her husband Nathaniel reside in Parkersburg.

Waylon K. Kincaid is completing his student teaching internship in Physical Education at Glenville Elementary School with teacher Bill Turner and at Gilmer County High School under teacher Bucky Stewart. Janet Bailey is Kincaid’s GSC supervisor. He is the son of Charles and June Kincaid of Lockwood.

Alysa Marie Lavey of Bradford, Ohio is completing her student teaching in Early Education and Elementary Education at Glenville Elementary School with cooperating teachers Nancy McVaney and Annette Finley. Dr. John Taylor, Connie Stout, and Don Sheets are Lavey’s GSC supervisors.

Kaleb Lawrence of McLouth, Kansas is completing his student teaching in Physical Education at Glenville Elementary School with teacher Bill Turner and at Gilmer County High School with cooperating teachers Buck Stewart, Joe Brannon, and Forest Powell. Janet Bailey is Lawrence’s GSC supervisor.

Andrea Nicole Wright-Loftis is completing her student teaching in Early Education at Glenville Elementary School with teacher Carrie Mann and in Elementary Education at Burnsville Elementary School under teacher Cindy Sprouse. Shelly Ratliff is her GSC supervisor. She is the daughter of Mike and Joyce Jarrell-Hicks of Elizabeth and Willard and Michele Wright of Glenville. She and her husband Daniel and daughter Emily Grace live in Stouts Mills.

Wirt County High School graduate Celinda Joy Hymen-Rogers is doing her student teaching in Early Education at Mineral Wells Elementary School with cooperating teachers Stevie Slone and Brenda McKnight. Shelly Ratliff is her GSC supervisor. Rogers is the daughter of Fred and Dottie Cornell of Petroleum, West Virginia. She and her husband Steven currently reside in Vienna, West Virginia.

Michelle Dawn Cutlip-Strimel is completing her student teaching in Early Education at Spencer Elementary School under cooperating teacher Sandra Cooper and in Elementary Education at Geary Elementary/Middle School with teacher Valerie Mace. Tara Cosco is Strimel’s GSC Supervisor. Strimel is the daughter of Jadean and Bill Cutlip of Ivydale. She and her husband Chad (GSC December ’09) and daughters Mikayla and Cadence reside in Spencer.

Calhoun County High School graduate Katie Jo Walker-Thorn did her student teaching in Mathematics (5-9) at Wirt County Middle School with teacher Pat Egbert, at Wirt County Primary Center in Elementary Education (K-6) with cooperating teacher LuAnn Ayers, and in Elementary Education at Mineral Wells Elementary School under teacher Bill Fletcher. Dr. John Curran, Suzanne Speelman, and Dr. Kevin Cain are her GSC supervisors. She is the daughter of Mark and Emma Walker of Big Bend. She and her husband Drew live in Elizabeth, West Virginia.

Lori Ann Ware is completing her student teaching internship in Elementary Music Education at Peterson-Central Elementary School in Weston with teacher Andrea Heath and in Music and Mathematics at Lewis County High School under cooperating teachers Linda Jamison and Lisa Arnold. Dr. John Taylor, Dr. John Curran, and Teresa Dody are Ware’s GSC supervisors. She is the daughter of Steve and Shelley Ware of Clay.

These students are scheduled to receive their degrees during the 136th Glenville State College Commencement Ceremony on Saturday, May 8, 2010.
