In Glenville State College Cross Country action, the Pioneers hosted three fellow WVIAC schools on Saturday at Cedar Creek State Park. The Griffins of Seton Hill, the Bobcats of WV Wesleyan and the Senators of Davis and Elkins made the trip to Glenville to check out the 2010 WVIAC Cross Country Championship course.
The women’s 6000 meter course and the men’s 8000 meter course feature several beautiful sections of the park, including: the Fisherman’s Trail, the three ponds, several of the sprawling fields and the hill near the swimming pool.
“I think everyone really liked the course,” stated GSC Head Coach, Cam Perry. “Other than the one hill, it is a fairly flat course which allows for some fast times.”
In the women’s race, Anna Cote from Seton Hill posted the winning time of 23:41. Krystle Bailey paced the Pioneers, finishing 22nd in 27:03.
Jon Bogert of Seton Hill outdistanced the men’s field, winning with a time of 26:34. However, GSC placed three in the top ten. TJ Abel was 5th with a 27:17. Dustin Wood was 6th with a 27:29. Freshman Ben Proudfoot was 10th with a 28:20.
“Our guys ran really well today. We only finished 3rd, but we lost to the two best teams in the conference,” said Coach Perry.
The Pioneers next race is at the University of Rio Grande on Saturday, September 25th.
