Charleston, WV – The Glenville State Pioneers gave a great effort but it wasn’t enough as the University of Charleston downed the Pioneers 61-67.
The Golden Eagles jumped out to a nine point lead at the 6:08 mark in the first half but the Pioneers battled back as they pulled with three points heading into halftime 30-33.
In the second half the Pioneers came out and keep fighting as the Golden Eagles climbed out to another lead, but at the 10:06 mark in the second half GSC took a five point lead as Jamel Morris drilled a three pointer making it 48-43.
The Pioneers though could not hold off the Golden Eagles as they stormed back and claimed a 61-67 victory.
Jamel Morris scored a game-high 23 points in the loss. Kevin Gray added 13 while Andy Dollman connected for 11. Chris Abney tallied eight points and six rebounds for GSC. The Pioneers hit 15-of-17 from the charity stripe.
Brandon Ross led the University of Charleston with 12 points. Marco Richardson had 11 points to go along with 18 rebounds and five assists. The Golden Eagles grabbed 18 offensive rebounds in the game.
The Pioneers return to action Thursday when they travel to take on Bluefield State. Game time is set for 7:30PM.
