Glenville, WV – The Pioneers men’s basketball team fell at home to WVIAC foe Alderson-Broaddus on Tuesday evening 69-88. The Pioneers and Battlers went back and fourth in the early minutes of the first half but Alderson-Broaddus got the hot hand and went on a run. The Battlers shot 56 percent in the first half as they built a 13 point lead 44-31 as they headed to halftime.
In the second half the Pioneers made a run but couldn’t get over the hump as the Battlers picked up the win.
The Pioneers shot 32 percent from the floor and 22 percent from behind the arc while the Battlers finished with 50 percent shooting from the floor and 57 percent from behind the arc.
Marcus Ashton led the Pioneers with a team-high 20 points in 28 minutes of action. Nate Cash tallied 13 points and a team-high eight rebounds while Kevin Gray notched 12. GSC hit 19 free throws in the game and registered eight steals.
The Battlers were paced by Kuklin Bohanon’s 25 points and eight rebounds. Nate Barnes scored 21, and handed out seven assists and grabbed six boards. The Battlers went 12 of 21 from behind the three-point line.
The Pioneers return to action Saturday when they travel to West Virginia State. Game time is set for 7:30PM.
