Glenville, WV – The Glenville State men’s basketball team picked up a nice win on Senior Day as they defeated the Ohio Valley, 87-71.
The Pioneers found themselves down nine points early in the first half 9-18, but they would battle back the rest of the first half and pull within one point heading into halftime, 34-35.
In the second half, GSC came out firing on all cylinders taking their first lead of the game at the 19:21 mark, 36-35. The Pioneers built that into a seven point lead, 46-39. However, they would see that lead vanish as Ohio Valley would go on an eight point run reclaiming the lead, 46-48.
GSC fired right back and reclaimed the lead off of Kevin Gray’s three pointer putting them up 51-50. The Pioneers extended their lead by 15 points, making it 73-58 with 5:33 left to play in the game. Ohio Valley attempted to recover the lead but the Pioneers proved to be too much as they would go on to claiming a 16 point victory, 87-71.
The Pioneers won the rebounding battle as they out rebounded the Fight Scouts 41 to 36. The Pioneers also won the shooting battle as they out shot OVU 46 percent to 42 percent.
The Pioneers were led by Kevin Gray as he scored 27 points as he went 7 for 12 from behind the three point line. Nate Cash had a double double on the night as he scored 15 points, grabbed 12 rebounds, and had four steals.
Senior Chris Abney scored 16 points and had five rebounds. Mark Walker also had a good game off the bench as he scored nine points and had five rebounds.
Ohio Valley was led by Rodney Everage with 22 points and six redounds. Austin Cunningham scored 18 points and handed out seven assists.
The Pioneers return to action on Tuesday, February 28th when they travel to West Virginia Wesleyan for their first round WVIAC Tournament game. Game time is TBA.
