Four GSC students are competing for the opportunity to win $10,000. Not it’s not a game show but the WVSCBPC competition which will take place April 5th and April 6th at WVU. However, the final round is still one step away as Caleb Greathouse, Racheal Fetty, Preston Veal, and Josh Ramsey all have one competition in Fairmont before they find out if they are headed to WVU for a chance at some big money. Seniors Greathouse and Fetty both team up in the Life Styles [...]

Bye Bye WVIAC?

Bye Bye WVIAC?

This Glenville State football team would have been something special any year given their conference record.  Although it isn’t official yet, the Pioneers could go onto be on top of the West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Association Conference forever with a win over Shepherd. That is because one of the largest and oldest Division 2 conferences is breaking up. Yes for those of you unaware the WVIAC is separating and Glenville State is one of many members who potentially will be joining the Mountain East Conference. [...]

Club Spotlight: Fencing

Club Spotlight: Fencing

As part of International week, one of the sporting events introduced was fencing. While fencing certainly is present here in America it isn’t as common as it is over in Europe. However, after a few years of “taking a vacation” the fencing club may be back for good at Glenville State College. Supervisor of the club, Dr. Wood, doesn’t expect anyone to be the next gold medalist in the upcoming Olympics. “I just want people to be familiar with it,” says Wood. Familiarizing people with [...]

GSC XC teams race last time in regular season in WVIAC

The men’s and women’s cross country teams competed this past weekend at Pipestem State Park. Host school Concord University held their annual Concord Alumni Invitational and several in-conference schools took part in the challenge along with in-state foe WVU Tech. The women’s 5k race was first and it wasn’t long before Rachel Williams of the host school rolled to a dominant victory in a time of 20:17. Williams set the tone for her team as Concord was just four points off a perfect score as [...]

Club Spotlight: GSC Lacrosse

Club Spotlight: GSC Lacrosse

Several schools in the WVIAC have added the sport of lacrosse as a competitive sport. While it isn’t yet considered a conference sport it should only take a few more schools in the WVIAC adding lacrosse for it to be officially a conference sport. Glenville State, not one to be left behind in the athletic world, quickly added lacrosse as a club. Dave Bernier, High Adventure Club supervisor, is currently the faculty member in charge of the sport. However, if interested in joining the club, [...]

Glenville MMA Sensation Prepares for Next Fight

Glenville MMA Sensation Prepares for Next Fight

Seven years ago, Wes Hanson was one opponent away from being a West Virginia wrestling state champion. Many would consider this the pinnacle of their athletic career, especially if they won this final match of their senior year. However, most people aren’t like Wes Hanson. After taking home a state title he was only getting started. Since that title Hanson has came a long way. He quickly picked up the sport of MMA while at Glenville and with his impressive wrestling background he was an almost [...]

Public Safety: The Solution or the Problem?

Public Safety: The Solution or the Problem?

What’s a more critical issue? Rape or a parking violation? Violence or making sure the doors to a facility are locked? Clearly these are rhetorical questions but you wouldn’t be able to tell by the actions of Glenville’s Public Safety Department. Even here at little Glenville State College some ugly events are happening and the authorities seem to be turning a blind eye. In one of the previous issues I addressed the problem with parking. It is a tedious process that does need attention. However, [...]

GSC Volleyball Performing Well

GSC Volleyball Performing Well

Although the women’s volleyball team has had some setbacks this year, Coach Camai Roberson and the team have really been working hard for good performances on the courts. Roberson stated that the team is somewhat struggling physically and is rough around the edges. The team originally had 16 players, but lost seven players to injury and sickness, recruited one new player, and is now working with a roster of 10. The overall talent, however, is stronger than it has been in the past. Roberson and [...]
