The men’s and women’s cross country teams competed this past weekend at Pipestem State Park. Host school Concord University held their annual Concord Alumni Invitational and several in-conference schools took part in the challenge along with in-state foe WVU Tech. The Glenville State College Pioneers hit the road to Wheeling this past Saturday to pick up their second conference win of the season against the West Liberty Hilltoppers. Although the women’s volleyball team has had some setbacks this year, Coach Camai Roberson and the team have really been working hard for good performances on the courts. Roberson stated that the team is somewhat struggling physically and is rough around the edges. The team originally had 16 players, but lost seven players to injury and sickness, recruited one new player, and is now working with a roster of 10.   The Glenville State College Pioneers fell to 1-3 for the season after another tough loss at Lindenwood University this past Friday. Colston Bayless gave the Pioneers a very early lead with a 22 yard field goal after Glenville drove the ball 70 yards on their first possession. This past Tuesday the Lady Pioneers volleyball team took on the West Virginia Tech Golden Bears in a 7 p.m. home match-up. The Lady Pioneers prevailed three sets to one over the visiting team in their home opener. The first two sets saw the Lady Pioneers win in dominating fashion with scores of 25-19 and 25-18 over the Lady Golden Bears. It was a tough Thursday night for the Glenville State Pioneers as they took their second loss of the season to University of Tennessee Chattanooga Mocs, with the final score being 35-0. Having only five first downs the entire game, the Pioneers offense just couldn’t get back into their groove after UT Chattanooga scored off of a Glenville State fumble by Rahmann Lee. The men’s and women’s cross country teams competed at the Forest Festival this past Saturday. Schools that participated were Fairmont State, Gannon, Ohio Valley, West Virginia Wesleyan, and the host school, the Davis and Elkins Senators. Defeating the Fairmont State Falcons 41-21 in the Battle of the Bit, The Glenville State College Pioneers will retain the Bit trophy for the third consecutive year. By the end of the first quarter, the Pioneers showed the Falcons who clearly would be in charge for the rest of the game, ending the quarter with a score of 17-7.
