A.R.T. Club to Unveil Bench Project
Glenville State College has always had a tradition of community involvement with projects that benefit the town as well as the school. Recently Alpha Rho Tau, the art club at GSC, has started a project in conjunction with the local schools to spruce up the appearance of downtown Glenville. They have taken the plain wooden benches from off the streets, sanded them down and delivered them to the area schools to paint as they desire.
“Alpha Rho Tau’s Bench Project is a community based initiative geared toward bringing opportunities in artistic expression and exhibition to the school age children of Glenville”, states Heather Coleman, vice president of the A.R.T. Club. She continues, “In addition the project seeks to beautify the city streets with bursts of color and imagination.”
The grand unveiling will occur in the Glenville City Square, on Saturday April 20, from 2 – 4 p.m. There will be free food provided by the Smokehouse Grill and Foodland, and there will be live music provided by the Intergalactic Catfish Jamboree.
So come on down and support the arts in Glenville, enjoy the afternoon, have some good BBQ and listen to some great tunes while you enjoy the beautiful works of art created by GSC, Gilmer County High School, and Glenville, Troy, Normantown, and Sandfork elementary schools
