Pioneers nipFalcons in close victory

On an evening better suited for basketball, the Glenville State College Pioneer football team was able to head north to Notre Dame College and come away with a tough earned victory. The day was better for throwing snowballs than footballs, but three rushing touchdowns provided the Pioneers with the all important 20-16 victory.
Although the offense was unable to produce even two hundred positive yards, the defense once again played well for the Pioneers. The defense caused a trio of turnovers on the day which placed the offense in great field position. The defense was led by Keith Mayes who accumulated eleven tackles on the day. Elijah Sala had seven and a half tackles and an interception. Darren Elliot also continued his outstanding play with yet another interception.

Pioneer FootballOffensively the Pioneers were led by sophomore workhorse running back Rahman Lee. Lee provided the Pioneer offense with eighty-eight yards on the ground and a pair of scores. Quarterback Sean Steele also provided the team with a rushing touchdown. Despite the rushing touchdown, Steele was unable to get things going through the air. On the day Steele was only able to pass for a meager sixty-six yards.

Although this victory was huge for the Pioneers, it was only one small step in finishing the season on a successful note. The largest of these steps could take place this weekend as the Pioneers play host to top ranked Shepherd. The battle for conference supremacy will place the Pioneers in a position to make a major step for the program. It is important that all fans and students come out this weekend to support the Pioneers as they shoot for the upset. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. at Morris Stadium.
