About

Originally from Michigan, Dr. Rebecca Walter received her master’s degree and PhD at the University of Utah. Her research focused on the biomechanics of locomotion; specifically looking at how dog's apply forces to the ground as they gallop and accelerate. After finishing her doctorate, she took a job teaching postgraduate human physiology courses to chiropractic students at the Florida branch of the National University of Health Sciences. She then moved to New Jersey, where she spent ten years teaching at Bloomfield College. While teaching at Bloomfield, Dr. Walter conducted a study looking at what makes some runners better on inclines than others with similar running abilities on level surfaces. She also mentored many students in independent research projects which were presented at the New Jersey Space Grant Coalition Undergraduate Research Symposium. Their projects included studies on how carrying weights or altering stride length affects the metabolic cost of walking, as well as how students' salivary cortisol levels differed between days with and without exams. Her hobbies include running, swimming, painting and other art projects.
