GSC Radio Back Online
Glenville State College’s radio station is back online with music and news for the campus and community. After being off the air for a few months, GSC radio is back on an updated platform. The radio service carries music, campus events, and sports, academic, and cultural news. The station also features a daily radio newscast.
GSC Land Resources Department Sponsoring Golf Tournament
Faculty and staff in the Department of Land Resources at Glenville State College are making plans for their 17th annual golf tournament. The tournament will tee off at noon on Friday, April 24th at the Bel Meadow Golf Club in Clarksburg, West Virginia.
Annual GSC Career Fair is March 24th
The annual Glenville State College Career Fair is scheduled for Tuesday, March 24th from 9:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. in the Mollohan Campus Community Center Ballroom. The event is sponsored by GSC's Career Services Office.
GSC's Dr. Joe Evans Inducted into Hall of Fame
Glenville State College Professor of Physical Science, Dr. Joe Evans, was inducted into the West Virginia University College of Education and Human Services (CEHS) Hall of Fame at a reception held recently in Morgantown. The Hall of Fame recognizes and honors alumni and other individuals who have significantly contributed to the vision and mission of the CEHS and/or who have distinguished themselves in their chosen fields, disciplines, positions, or occupations.
GSC Spirit Song Contest Accepting Entries
A contest is underway at Glenville State College to provide lyrics for a new school spirit song. Two GSC students, Robbie Mann and Josh Pitcock, have composed music for the song and they're now reaching out to the current student body, alumni, and campus faculty and staff to craft the lyrics.
Dawson Scholarship Established at GSC
The Glenville State College Foundation is pleased to announce the formation of the Bill and Patsy (Garrett) Dawson Scholarship. This scholarship, which is designed to support GSC students in the education and physical education fields, was funded with life insurance proceeds upon the passing of Mr. Dawson in November of 2014.
GSC December Graduates Receive Their Diplomas; Heffelfinger Gives Keynote Address
Glenville State College's first full winter commencement ceremony took place on Saturday, December 13th. The graduates, officially part of the Class of 2015, completed requirements for an Associate or Bachelor’s Degree in a variety of academic areas including business, criminal justice, teacher education, and natural resource management among others.
Mental Health First Aid Certification Held at GSC
The GSC Behavioral Science Club hosted a mental health first aid certification course for its students and alumni on Saturday, November 8th. During the eight-hour course, participants learned a five-step action plan to help loved ones, colleagues, neighbors, and others cope with mental health problems such as depression, anxiety, psychosis, and substance use.
Shelly Ratliff Successfully Defends Dissertation
Assistant Professor of Education Shelly Ratliff has wrapped up six years' of effort on her doctoral degree and successfully defended her dissertation at Marshall University. Ratliff, who began her teaching career in Calhoun County, has been an instructor at GSC for nearly six years. Her dissertation is titled 'A Study of Kindergarten Teachers' Ability to Teach the Kindergarten Informational Text Standards in Fifteen West Virginia School Districts.'
