Mon Oct 11, 2010

Homecoming Week at Glenville State College will be celebrated the week of October 18th. The GSC Student Government Association and the Homecoming Committee have planned a host of activities for student, faculty, staff, alumni, and friends during the week. The theme for the 2010 Homecoming is ‘Great Pasts Inspire New Beginnings.’ Homecoming is a time for renewing college friendships, making new acquaintances, exchanging college memories and experiences, and enjoying good ole Pioneer Camaraderie.

On Wednesday, October 20th, “Homecoming Bingo” will be held in the Rusty Musket at noon and again at 7:00 p.m. Contestants will include GSC students, faculty, and staff.

The Homecoming Coronation will be held on Thursday, October 21st in the GSC Amphitheatre. In case of rain, the ceremony will be moved to the Presidents Auditorium in the Heflin Administration Building. Also on Thursday, Mollohan’s Restaurant will be serving a special Homecoming Premium Night. The Student Government Association’s Homecoming Dance, “Blast From The Past” will take place Thursday evening at 8:00 p.m. in the MCCC Ballroom. Students are encouraged to come dressed in their favorite decade, like a 50s B-Bopper, a 60s Hippie, a 70s Disco fan, or a 80s Rocker.

On Friday, October 22nd, GSC’s 4th Annual Golf Tribute Tournament will be held at the Glenville Golf Club. The format will be a four person scramble with a 10:00 a.m. shotgun start. Anyone interested in participating should contact GSC Men’s Golf Coach Greg Smith or Deanna Beron at (304) 462-5634 for more information or to register.

The Homecoming bon fire, pep rally, and spirit competition will take place on Friday evening at Morris Stadium. The GSC Marching Band will be performing. Everyone is invited to come out and cheer on the Pioneers.

On Saturday, October 23rd, the Homecoming Parade on Main Street in Glenville begins at 10:00 a.m. Bill and Margaret (’51) Goodwin, major donors of Goodwin Hall, will serve as homecoming parade marshals. Glenville State College President Peter Barr and his wife Betsy will host a Tailgate Picnic from 11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. in the parking lot at Morris Stadium. The Homecoming football game will feature the GSC Pioneers hosting the West Virginia State University Yellow Jackets in WVIAC battle at 1:30 p.m. at Morris Stadium. The 2010 GSC Homecoming Court will be presented during pre-game festivities. The 2010 Clarissa Williams and Frank Montrose Award winners will also be honored at this time. To celebrate the opening of GSC’s newest student housing facility, Goodwin Hall, this year’s special guests for homecoming will be the alumni resident hall assistants and former resident hall directors, who will be recognized during half time of the game.
