Annual Day of Giving Celebration Raises over $130,000

GLENVILLE, WV - Thanks to the generous support of the Pioneer community, Glenville State College raised over $130,000 from 357 donors during the third-annual Day of Giving earlier this year.

During this year’s Day of Giving, students, faculty, and staff came together for a celebration in the Mollohan Campus Community Center, featuring a “vision board” for 2020, matching gift opportunities, bonus challenges, a thank you card writing station, and refreshments. Campus and community members came together again for a celebration at the Waco Center later that afternoon. The Day of Giving was held on February 19 in recognition of GSC’s Founder’s Day.

Donations benefitted a diverse selection of academic and athletic campaigns on campus such as the Student Scholarship Fund, new lights for the Pioneer Stage and Bluegrass Education Center, boxing equipment for GSC Boxing, Praxis assistance funds for the GSC Department of Education, GSC student activities, the Alumni Hardship Fund, and many more. Through meeting giving goals on Day of Giving, the campus community unlocked an additional $42,200 in bonus gifts, and Pioneer Athletics hosted a Lift-A-Thon, raising an additional $2,500.
 
“The generosity of our Pioneer family never ceases to amaze me! I see alumni, faculty, staff, friends, and community members who believe in the future generation of talented students who will surely make an impact in their future careers. It is truly amazing what we can do when we team up and I thank everyone who helped us empower Pioneers through the Day of Giving!” said GSC’s Director of Fundraising Ashley Knight.

“To continue to retain and recruit the very best students, we must continue to build our scholarship funds. Over 90% of students who receive a GSC Foundation scholarship continue their education at our institution. It is vital to continue to grow the number and dollar amount of award scholarships to our brightest students to empower them to complete their education and become emerging leaders in their careers,” Knight added.
