Another Glenville State College Alum Pledges $250,000 to Alma Mater

Glenville State College alum and board member Tom McPherson and his wife Mary Lee have announced a quarter of a million dollar gift to the Glenville State College capital campaign. They say it is their way of doing their part to make the college a better place. Mr. McPherson said, “I feel the college gave me a good foundation for a successful career, and this is a way to give back. Glenville State College was good to me, provided me with a good education, and has a warm place in my heart.”

GSC President Dr. Peter Barr commends the McPhersons for helping the first capital campaign in Glenville State College’s history. “I am bowled over that Tom and his wife have pledged a quarter of a million dollars. They have set a high standard for others who love Glenville State College. I appreciate their commitment to the college as well as the others who have also displayed loyalty to the campus,” said Barr.

Glenville State College’s Transforming Lives Now capital began earlier this year and continues through June 30th of next year. The public phase of the campaign will begin in the fall.

Mr. McPherson graduated from Glenville State College in 1958. He served as loan officer for Kanawha Union Bank before rising to the position of President. After the financial institution merged with United Bank in 1988, he served as Executive Vice President for United Bankshares until his retirement. He has served on the Glenville State College Foundation Board for more than twenty years and is currently serving his first term on the GSC Board of Governors. Mrs. McPherson has owned and operated Town and Country Real Estate in Glenville for many years. They reside in Burnsville, West Virginia and have three children: Jerry, Brad, and Sherrie.
