Army Band to Perform Free at GSC

Glenville, WV-- The 249th Army Band will be visiting Glenville State College on Saturday November10th to visit with students and Army Bandperform a free concert. The band is making several appearances around the state in celebration of Veteran’s Day. On Saturday morning, the band will be meeting with the GSC Music Department students and faculty, talking about the Band and conducting jam sessions. The 249th Army Band will then perform a free concert at 2 p.m. in the GSC Fine Arts Auditorium. The concert is free and open to the public.

The 249th Army Band of the West Virginia Army National Guard is the only military band serving the state of West Virginia. It serves one weekend per month and performs throughout the region in support of military ceremonies, community programs, parades, and state government functions. The band's history dates back to the turn of the century and is currently stationed in Morgantown.

The band is made up of members from throughout the state. These members make up a Concert Band, Jazz Ensemble, several small ensembles including Brass Choir, Jazz Quartet and Percussion Ensemble. The unit is under the command of Chief Warrant Officer Four Thomas Goff. “Our performances offer a mix of Patriotic, Americana, and Entertainment selections,” said Goff. There will also be performances by smaller ensembles from within the band. The 249th Army Band’s concerts normally last between 60 and 90 minutes.
