Choral Performance 2009

Glenville State College's spring choir concert on Tuesday, April 28, 2009 appeared equally appreciated by performers as well as the audience. Choir director Teresa Dody brings a new level of attention to the style and technique of vocal offerings at the school. Students were given the opportunity to direct several numbers, and the Glenville State College Bluegrass Band joined in to help too.

Staging was reminiscent of an early 1990’s bare bones Bruce Springstein tour thrusting the E-Street Band onstage with a no-frills nothing-to-hide-behind performance to a series of sold out U.S. shows. It created a perfect backdrop to showcase the vocal talent of GSC's students.

In a ‘dressed down’ second half, the choir wore spray-painted tee-shirts of their own design which, from a distance, appeared to be an upscale tie-dyed variety that would have made The Grateful Dead proud. "You can't do rock music in pearls and heels," Dody said matter-of-factly following the show.

Following a John Denver (‘Country Roads’ & ‘Thank God I'm a Country Boy’) melody, the choir closed the performance with a tribute to the rock group Queen.
