menuGLENVILLE, W.Va. — Dr. Lloyd Bone, Department Chair, Associate Professor of Music, and Marching Band Director at Glenville State University, was recently selected to perform in an elite professional tuba and euphonium ensemble during a special celebration held May 23rd - May 25th at the University of South Alabama in Mobile, Alabama.
The distinguished ensemble was comprised of leading tuba and euphonium educators from across the United States, along with former performers from some of the world's premier military and professional ensembles, including the U.S. Army Band "Pershing's Own" and the United States Air Force Band.
The three-day event honored three internationally renowned figures whose contributions have shaped the tuba and euphonium community for decades: Jim Self, one of Hollywood's most accomplished tubists; Daniel Perantoni, Professor Emeritus at Indiana University and mentor to countless performers who have gone on to prestigious musical careers worldwide; and R. Winston Morris, Professor Emeritus at Tennessee Technological University and widely regarded as the world's foremost authority on tuba and euphonium ensembles.
As part of the celebration, the ensemble presented a 90-minute concert featuring many of the most significant and influential works from the more than 50-year history of the tuba and euphonium ensemble tradition. The performance highlighted the artistic excellence and rich legacy of the low brass community while bringing together some of the field's most respected musicians and educators.
"It was an incredible experience playing major literature from our repertoire with some of the finest tuba and euphonium players in America," said Bone when asked about his experience.
Bone's participation reflects his continued commitment to musical excellence and professional engagement within the national and international music community, while bringing that expertise back to the classroom and performance opportunities at Glenville State University.
