EQT Foundation awards grant to support STEM Pathways and student research at Glenville State University

Glenville State University’s Department of Land Resources, in partnership with the Glenville State University Foundation, has received a $20,000 grant from the EQT Foundation to strengthen undergraduate STEM education and expand research opportunities for students in Natural Resource Management and related programs.

The grant supports the project, “Continuing Support for Undergraduate STEM and Research Education through Glenville State University’s Natural Resource Management Program,” focused on expanding hands-on learning, building workforce-relevant skills, and increasing student participation in applied research.

A key component of the project advances High School STEM Pathways, creating more opportunities for high school students to earn college credit, pursue a GIS Certificate, and follow an Associate of Arts pathway connected to GSU’s Natural Resource Management and Land Surveying programs. These early pathways are designed to provide a head start on college education, strengthen college readiness, and increase awareness of STEM careers tied to natural resources and geospatial technology.

The grant also supports undergraduate research through NRMT 499 (Individual Research Problems), a variable-credit course that allows students to complete research or applied projects aligned with regional needs. Projects may include field-based investigations, GIS and drone-based analysis, and other applied studies that culminate in presentations or professional-style reports.

“We’re grateful to the EQT Foundation for continuously supporting our students and strengthening STEM pathways in our region over the years,” said Dr. Rico Gazal, Professor, Department of Land Resources.
