Glenville, WV – A Glenville State College Assistant Music Professor’s faculty voice recital has been rescheduled. Dr. Carol Benton’s ‘An Evening of Song’ will now take place on Monday, February 4, 2008 at 7:00 p.m. in the Glenville State College Fine Arts Center auditorium. The program was originally scheduled for January 15, but it was postponed due to inclement weather. A varied repertoire of art songs and arias representing various composers, cultures, and languages over a 250-year period will be presented.

Benton says ‘An Evening of Song’ will consist of five sets of three songs each featuring the music of Bach, Beethoven, Mozart, and more. “The first will be solos from sacred masterworks (oratorios or masses) of great composers. The second section will be recitatives and arias from operas. The third section will consist of German leider (songs) of the 19th century,” said Benton, “The fourth section will consist of three songs from the French impressionist period, all composed by Claude Debussy. The fifth and final section will consist of songs from American musical theatre of the 1930's. These final songs were composed by George and Ira Gershwin.”

The recital is free, open to the public, and will last about one hour. For more information, call the GSC Fine Arts Department at (304) 462-4130.
