Fall Education Interns Complete Student Teaching for GSC

Glenville, WV – Thirteen students have completed their student teaching internships for Glenville State College and participated in GSC’s December Commencement Ceremony on Saturday, December 14.

Desiree Payne of Hedgesville, West Virginia completed her student teaching in Elementary Education (K-6) and Multi-categorical Special Education (K-6) at Inwood Primary School with Bethany Miller. Connie Stout O’Dell was her GSC supervisor. She is the daughter of Randy and Cheli Payne of Hedgesville, West Virginia.

Ashlee James of Flatwoods, West Virginia completed her student teaching in Mathematics Education (5-adult) at Summersville Middle School with Mary Heather Williams. Frances Fry and Larry Baker were her GSC supervisors. She is the daughter of Louann Worrix of Sutton, West Virginia.

Katy Dean of Heaters, West Virginia completed her student teaching in Multi-Categorical Special Education (K-6), Early Education (PreK-K), and Elementary Education (K-6) at Burnsville Elementary School with Diane Allison and Joyce Stump. Dr. Gerda Kumpiene and Connie Stout O’Dell were her GSC supervisors. She is the daughter of Lawrence and Charity Dean of Heaters, West Virginia.

Alexis Spell of Frametown, West Virginia completed her student teaching in Early Education (PreK-K) and General Science Education (5-9) at New River Primary School with Kara Shuff and at Summersville Middle School with Susan Board. Frances Fry and Dr. Jeff Hunter were her GSC supervisors. She is the daughter of Trisha and Charles Spell of Frametown, West Virginia.

Erica Jones of Big Springs, West Virginia completed her student teaching in Early Education (PreK-K) and Elementary Education (K-6) at Pleasants Hill Elementary School with Ashley Cunningham and Kristie Richie. Dr. Shelly Ratliff was her GSC supervisor. She is the daughter of James and Shelvia Jones of Big Springs, West Virginia.

Mary Stoops of Arnoldsburg, West Virginia completed her student teaching in Elementary Education (K-6) and Multi-Categorical Special Education (K-6) at Pleasant Hill Elementary School with Angie Sims and at Geary Elementary School with Michelle Keen. Dr. Gerda Kumpiene and Dr. Shelly Ratliff were her GSC supervisors. She is the daughter of Christie Stoops of Vienna, West Virginia. Stoops was also recognized as the Outstanding Student Teaching Intern for the Fall 2019 semester.

Trevor Wright of Glenville, West Virginia completed his student teaching in Music Education (PreK-adult) at Gilmer County Elementary with Judy Leggett and in Social Studies Education (5-adult) at Braxton County High School with JD Drake and Jerry Frame. Dr. Shara Curry, Dr. David Lewis, and Danita Shaw were his GSC supervisors. He is the son of Willard and Michele Wright of Glenville, West Virginia.

Faith Smith of Petersburg, West Virginia completed her student teaching in Music Education (PreK-adult) at Buckhannon Upshur High School with Jeremiah Smallridge and at Jane Lew Elementary and Robert L. Bland Middle School with Tracy Alfred. Connie Stout O’Dell and Dr. David Lewis were her GSC supervisors. She is the daughter of Jamie Cook of Maysville and Tammy Eckard of Petersburg, West Virginia.

Jennifer Eiler of Weston, West Virginia completed her student teaching in Elementary Education (K-6) and Social Studies Education (5-9) at Gilmer County Elementary School with Kim Roberts and Gilmer County High School with Karen McClain. Don Sheets, Dr. Shara Curry, and Danita Shaw were her GSC supervisors. She is the daughter of Dave and Susanna Roth of Weston, West Virginia. She currently resides in Weston with her husband Rob and her three children Jack, Kaylee, and Bryce.

April Martin of Jane Lew, West Virginia completed her student teaching in English Education (5-adult) at Robert L. Bland Middle School with Holly Riley and at Lewis County High School with Leslie White. Dr. Melody Wise was her GSC supervisor. She is the daughter of Ruth and Lee McFarlin of Bartow, West Virginia. She currently resides in Jane Lew with her husband Will Martin III and her children Phoebe, James IV, and Liam.

Morgan Hardesty of Worthington, West Virginia completed her student teaching in Elementary Education (K-6) and Early Education (PreK-K) at Gilmer County Elementary School with Rebecca Chesser and Janet Coombs. Dr. Shelly Ratliff was her GSC supervisor. She is the daughter of Christina and Jacob Thompson of Worthington and Jim Hardesty of Shinnston, West Virginia.

Jessy Moore of St. Marys, West Virginia completed his student teaching in Health and Physical Education (PreK-adult) at Gilmer County High School with Amy Chapman and at Gilmer County Elementary School with Julie Stewart. Dr. Jong Yu and Don Sheets were his GSC supervisors. He is the son of Richard Moore and Theresa Sigler of St. Marys, West Virginia.

Senior teacher education students take part in an internship during their final semester at GSC. At the conclusion of their internship students must complete a presentation illustrating their mastery of the Interstate New Teacher Assessment and Support Consortium (InTASC) standards as well as the standards of their particular area of study.
