Glenville State College Head Football Coach Alan Fiddler has announced that he will be resigning. “I feel that it is time to look for new challenges and opportunities for me and my family,” said Fiddler.

Fiddler, a former Glenville State College quarterback (1984-87), was named Head Coach of the Pioneers in 2004. During his seven-year tenure he led the Pioneers to a 45-32 overall record which is a school record for the most wins by any other coach in their first seven years. In 2008 Fiddler guided the Pioneers to the WVIAC Championship. Under his leadership the Pioneers earned a 38-16 conference record. In his final game as head coach Glenville upset heavily favored and nationally ranked Shepherd University 28-24. Fiddler says he is leaving the program in good shape. “We have recruited very well and there are some very talented players on the roster. Nineteen starters and both kickers will return next fall so the Pioneers should be positioned to make another run at the conference crown.”

Glenville State College Athletic Director Janet Bailey said, “Coach Fiddler will always be a member of the Pioneer football family. As a player and as a coach he has made a positive contribution to Glenville State College. We thank him for his dedicated service and wish him and his family nothing but the best in the future.”

A native of Berkeley County, West Virginia, Fiddler began his coaching career as an assistant coach at South Charleston and Mussleman high schools before taking the Head Coaching position at Moorefield High School in 1993. He led Moorefield to six West Virginia High School State Championships and a state runner-up in ten seasons. Fiddler holds West Virginia’s state coaching records for the most consecutive state championships (4) and the most playoff wins (28) in state history. Fiddler had a career 98-28 record and 28-2 playoff record while at Moorefield. He coached two undefeated teams and had a 30 game winning streak at MHS. In addition, Fiddler coached the North squad to a 20-18 victory in the 2000 West Virginia North-South All-Star game.

“I have truly enjoyed my time here at Glenville and appreciate the wonderful players and coaches that I have had the pleasure of working with. I am very proud of what I have accomplished while leading the Pioneer program.” said Fiddler.
