Forty-three Students Graduate with Honors from GSC

Glenville State College President Dr. Peter Barr hosted a dinner for the 2009 GSC Honor Graduates on Wednesday, May 7th in the Ballroom of the Mollohan Campus Community Center. The evening was in recognition of the students graduating with honors from GSC. Academic Honor Distinction includes Summa Cum Laude (3.85-4.00 GPA), Magna Cum Laude (3.70-3.84 GPA), and Cum Laude (3.50-3.69 GPA). Students were each presented with a pin and an honors sash to be worn with their cap and gown during Commencement.

The students graduating with honors are listed as follows according to their West Virginia county or other state or country of residence:

Boone County: James Fredrick Collins of Comfort graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration.

Braxton County: Nora Jane Hall of Sutton graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration. James W. Jenkins of Little Birch graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Natural Resource Management. Michelle Lea Norman of Sutton graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration. Dustin Andrew Crutchfield graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration. Crystal Maria Spaur of Flatwoods graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Behavioral Science.

Calhoun County: Jason Duane Poling of Grantsville graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Chemistry and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology. Eli Thomas Walker of Munday graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Chemistry and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology.

Fayette County: Candace Lea White of Winona graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Behavioral Science.

Grant County: Nicole Brittany Calhoun of Petersburg graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Behavioral Science.

Gilmer County: Mandy Jo James of Normantown graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration. Ruth Marie Hill of Harrisville, formerly of Glenville graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Education. Mary Elizabeth Jones of Sand Fork graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration. Crystal Marie Metz of Glenville graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Education. Josephus Petaway of Glenville graduated Magna Cum Laude with an Associate Degree in Business. Freelin Simpkins of Glenville graduated Magna Cum Laude with an Associate Degree in Business. George K. Williams of Glenville graduated Cum Laude with an Associate Degree in Business.

Hampshire County: Rachel Burkett of Romney graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Arts in Education with a specialization in Elementary Education.

Hardy County: Brandi Michelle Bierkamp of Moorefield graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Behavioral Science.

Harrison County: Jesse Loren De La Cruz of Lumberport graduated Cum Laude with an Associate Degree in Forest Technology and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Natural Resource Management. Andrew Paul Minigh of Clarksburg graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Regents Bachelor of Arts Degree. Ashley Nicole Murphy of Shinnston graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Education with specializations in Elementary Education, Science (5-9), and Math (5-9).

Jackson County: Christina Michele Braden of Ripley graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Arts in Education with a specialization in Elementary Education.

Kanawha County: Aaron Joseph Fiddler of Cross Lanes graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor Science Degree in Behavioral Science. Jacqueline Jill Grigsby of Nitro graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Education with a specialization in Elementary Education.

Lewis County: Crystal Michelle Williams of Weston graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Education with a specialization in Elementary Education and Multi-Categorical Special Education.

Mineral County: Gloria Dawn Ludwick of Burlington graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Behavioral Science. Molly Marie Snoberger of Ridgeley graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration.

Nicholas County: Miranda Leah Richardson of Mount Nebo graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Behavioral Science. Ashley Renee Woods of Summersville graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Behavioral Science.

Pendleton County: Rebecca J. Humphreys of Franklin graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Education. She completed her requirements for graduation in December of 2008.

Randolph County: Erin Nicole Bradley of Coalton graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Education with a specialization in Elementary Education and Multi-Categorical Special Education.

Ritchie County: Jeanne Ann Fleming graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration. Ruth Marie Hill of Harrisville graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Education with a specialization in Elementary Education, Science (5-9), and Social Studies (5-9). Amanda Darlene Rial graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Education with a specialization in Early Education (PreK-K).

Tucker County: Holli Marie Owens of Parsons graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration.

Upshur County: Jessica Marie Lamb of Buckhannon graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Natural Resource Management. Caitlin Autumn Orsburn of Tallmansville graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration.

Wirt County: Wesley Levi Long of Elizabeth graduated Magna Cum Laude with an Associate Degree in Land Surveying Technology. Cristopher Paul Somerville of Elizabeth graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration.

Wood County: Jessica Renee Jones of Waverly graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Education. Seth T. Williamson of Parkersburg graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in History.

Out of State: Christine Renee Disabato of Westerville, Ohio graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology. Tetsuya Yamamoto of Tokyo, Japan graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Chemistry.

These honor graduates were among the two hundred and sixteen students representing twenty-four West Virginia Counties, eight other states (California, Florida, Indiana, Iowa, Maryland, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Virginia), and two other countries (Canada and Japan) who received their degrees during the 135th Glenville State College Commencement on Saturday, May 9, 2009.
