GLENVILLE, WV – With a recent $1 million gift, WJ “Jack” Hardman has established the Gilmer County Education Fund at Glenville State College (GSC).

The Gilmer County Education Fund is designed to support students from Gilmer County High School who are attending Glenville State College. Hardman created this scholarship to assist local students and provide an opportunity for them to attend college, recognizing the importance of higher education and the opportunities it provided to him.

Scholarship awardees will be selected by the Scholarship Committee at Glenville State College from a list of students from Gilmer County High School. A student may receive a scholarship renewal as long as they maintain a 2.5 GPA and continue to make satisfactory academic progress toward their degree.

Hardman graduated from Glenville High School in 1944. The United States Navy, through the GI Bill, provided him with the opportunity of a college education from Duke University. He wanted to help provide Gilmer County students the same opportunity to attend Glenville State College.

“We are very grateful to Mr. Hardman for his generosity in establishing this scholarship at Glenville State College,” said David Hutchison, Vice President of Advancement at GSC. “These funds will benefit students from Gilmer County, allowing them an opportunity to attend GSC and receive a college degree.”
