Glenville, WV – More than a dozen Hidden Promise Scholars from Central West Virginia are being honored tonight at Glenville State College. The thirteen students will all receive college scholarships this evening and are now freshmen at GSC. The students represent thirteen local counties and school superintendents that GSC President Dr. Peter Barr signed an agreement with earlier this year. Barr’s collaborative memorandum of understanding is aimed at improving communication between higher education and K through 12. Barr said, “We hope to improve the number and quality of high school graduates including raising ACT scores, increase the number of students going to college, and increase the number and quality of college graduates,” said Barr.

The agreement was signed in June and is between Glenville State College and Barbour, Calhoun, Clay, Doddridge, Gilmer, Lewis, Nicholas, Randolph, Ritchie, Roane, Upshur, Webster, and Wirt County Schools. Barr says prior to the agreement being signed, he met with the group of superintendents a few times together to discuss goals of the collaboration. He also traveled to their counties to meet with them individually in their board of education offices. Tonight’s Hidden Promise Scholars dinner will begin at 6:00 p.m. in the Mollohan Campus Community Center Third Floor Ballroom at Glenville State College.
