Glenville State College has been given the honor of hosting College Summit. About fifty upcoming high-school seniors from throughout West Virginia will be living on campus at Glenville State College June 13th - 17th. The College Summit program will give them the help they need to succeed in higher education. College Summit was founded in 1993 and has continuously grown to help students nationwide to achieve their dreams of earning secondary education degrees.

The College Summit is a week-long workshop that will help students produce their college applications and personal essays while learning about other elements of the college application process. They will also receive information about financial aid. In addition, College Summit will prepare the students’ teachers to serve as resources during the school year to ensure that the students will have support throughout their senior year.

GSC’s Vice President of Academic Affairs, Dr. Kathy Butler said, “College Summit is an opportunity to reach out to students and an opportunity to show what we can do for the students. It is also a great way to introduce them to Glenville State College.”

Staying on campus will give the students a first-hand opportunity to experience college life. They will take part in many activities that are part of daily life on a college campus. Interim Vice President of Enrollment Management, Duane Chapman, said “This is an opportunity to give students the drive to succeed and experience college life at Glenville State College.”

There is a lot of anticipation on campus for this event. “We are excited to have these students on our campus. This is an exciting opportunity for the students; this may be the first time they have been on a college campus,” said Amy Fiddler, GSC Career and Outreach Services Director.

College Summit has helped more than 15,000 students nationwide over the past ten years. College Summit is also taking place this summer across the nation in California, Colorado, South Carolina, Missouri and Washington, D.C.
