GLENVILLE STATE SENIOR RECITALS

Glenville, WV—Three Glenville State College students are scheduled to perform in their senior recitals with three different instruments.

Rachel Singleton’s mandolin senior recital and Eileen Marsh’s saxophone senior recital will both take place on Saturday, October 28th at 7:00 p.m. Scott A. Smith’s trombone senior recital will take place on Friday, October 27th at 7:00 p.m. The recitals will take place in the GSC Fine Arts Auditorium, and the admission is free.

Singleton is a Summersville, West Virginia native and a senior music education major with a specialization in mandolin at Glenville State College. Over the past four years, Rachel has performed in Nashville, Tennessee with the GSC Bluegrass Band. She has also performed in the GSC jazz band, percussion ensemble, marching band, chamber singers, and many others. Singleton is scheduled to graduate in May 2007 with her degree in music education, pre-K-adult.

Eileen Marsh is a Linn, West Virginia native and senior music education major with a specialization in saxophone at Glenville State College. Over the past four years, Eileen has performed in Nashville, Tennessee with the GSC Bluegrass Band. She has also performed with GSC’s jazz band, percussion ensemble, marching band, concert choir, and several others. Marsh is scheduled to graduate in May 2007 with her degree in music education, pre-K-adult.

GSC Cultural Events Director, Buddy Griffin, said, “Rachel and Eileen have both been wonderful students and musicians. They will be greatly missed here at Glenville State.”

Scott A. Smith is from West Union, West Virginia in Doddridge County. He is a senior music education major with a specialization in trombone. During his college years, he has performed in the marching band, the concert band, the percussion ensemble, the brass ensemble, the concert choir, the chamber singers, and the jazz band as well as has been a church pianist and organist both in Glenville and in his hometown. Smith has also been involved with the GSC Student Government Association and has served as a leader with the GSC Chapter of the Music Educators National Conference (MENC). He is scheduled to graduate from Glenville State in May 2007 with a B.A. degree in music education, pre-K-adult.

GSC Assistant Professor of Music, Brass Professor, and Band Director, Lloyd Bone, said, “Scott will go down as one of the best students I have ever had. His work ethic, dedication, and willingness to learn are unparallel to anyone I’ve taught. He is a gem.”
