Glenville State University Unveils Innovative Mathematics Bachelor’s Program

Glenville State University is elated to announce the inauguration of its Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics program.

This innovative program is meticulously crafted to offer an interdisciplinary approach, allowing students to immerse themselves in the expansive world of mathematics. It seamlessly integrates core mathematics courses with the opportunity to choose electives from diverse departments. This integration enables students to establish links between mathematics and various fields such as business, computer science, science/engineering, and land surveying/natural resource management.

GSU is committed to fostering holistic learning, emphasizing not only a robust mathematical foundation but also the development of communication skills, teamwork, and critical thinking. This balanced approach ensures that graduates are equipped to navigate various career paths successfully.

“For decades, GSU has been a leader in producing strong graduates in mathematics education. Now we can offer that same opportunity to students who wish to apply their mathematical interests and skills to the diverse professions outside teaching.” says Dr. David O’Dell, Professor of Chemistry and Chair of the Science and Mathematics Department.

The program offers students enriching research opportunities, allowing them to enhance their analytical and investigative skills, supported by the curriculum, the faculty, and the university’s resources.

"With an interdisciplinary approach, distinguished faculty, and research opportunities, it offers an exciting journey into mathematics. We invite prospective students to join us in shaping the future of mathematics at Glenville State University " says Dr. Wenwen Du, Associate Professor of Mathematics.

The Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics program will roll out next year; however, current students can get a jump start on the degree immediately as many of the courses are already available.

Prospective students interested in exploring this dynamic program can seek advising from the mathematics faculty in the Science Hall Room 202 office suite.
