Glenville, WV—The Gilmer County Public Library has received over $7,000 in books from Glenville State College. The books are part of a continuing redistribution of books donated to the GSC by the Christian Appalachian Project. The newest shipment of books to GSC included over 6,000 assorted titles. “We are very fortunate to receive so many random titles. Normally shipments contain large quantities of the same title making it more difficult to redistribute. This allotment of well over $52,000 worth of books will allow us to give many different books to organizations such as libraries,” said Dr. Bob Henry Baber, Major Gifts Officer at Glenville State College.

The staff of the Gilmer County Library spent eight hours, over two days, sorting through some two hundred and fifty boxes of books, selecting 480 titles that would enhance the circulation at the Library. “The Gilmer County Library is thrilled to receive these books. We have a small budget to buy books, so this donation from GSC is a bonus that helps us add books that we may not be able to do otherwise, said Susan Atkinson, Gilmer County Public Library Librarian. The fifteen boxes of books they selected are mostly adult fiction and nonfiction but do include some children’s titles.

The Robert F. Kidd Library at GSC also placed 290 books worth $5,010 from this latest donation into their circulation. “We have really been blessed to receive so many valuable books that we could not have afforded to purchase. There are still thousands of these books that we will be making available to other libraries in West Virginia,” said Gail Westbrook, Director of the Robert F. Kidd Library at GSC.

The book redistribution is made possible through a partnership between Glenville State College, the Christian Appalachian Project, and Gilmer County’s Visions, Vessels, and Victory nonprofit organization.

Last year, GSC redistributed over $150,000 worth of books to several organizations, thirteen county school systems, and the Belpre, Ohio city schools.
