Glenville, WV—On Tuesday, September 24, 2007, the Glenville State College Drumline was the featured exhibition performance at the GSC DrumlineNicholas County Band Spectacular. The event was hosted by Nicholas County Band Director Roger Aikers, a GSC music education alum and Richwood High School Band Director, Greg James, who is also a GSC music education alum. The GSC drumline performed for hundreds of people as eight high school marching bands from around West Virginia participated in the event making this a very good publicity opportunity for GSC.

Marching bands at the event included Braxton County, Lewis County, Nicholas County, Richwood, and Webster County. Before the awards presentation, the GSC drumline performed several cadences to a very enthusiastic and impressed audience. The drumline performed again following the awards presentation for hundreds of high school students who stayed around to hear them play more cadences. GSC senior music education major Jeff Taylor said, “I thought it was a great experience performing for high school students who don’t often get to see that level of playing, and to see their reaction.” GSC senior music education major Jessica Jones said, “I think this is important to promote the music department by going out and showing students what we have to offer and possibly inspire future music majors for GSC.” Drumline captain R.J. Cook said,” It was a great educational experience for high school students and I hope it motivates them to strive to be the best in what they do.” For more information on the GSC drumline or music program, contact GSC Fine Arts Department Chair Lloyd Bone at (304) 462-7361 ext. 7340.
