Glenville, WV—The Glenville State College Fine Arts Department held its annual Music Audition Day on Tuesday, February 5th. Around twenty high school students who plan on attending GSC were invited to come and audition their musical talents. The main purpose of the auditions is to determine which students will receive scholarships.

“I was very pleased with the high quality talent of the students who auditioned. The numbers were up slightly, and we attracted students from all over the state,” said Lloyd Bone, Assistant Professor of Music and Department Chair. Students attending audition day came from Morgantown, Fairmont, Huntington, Parkersburg, Greenbrier County as well as the counties surrounding Glenville. “We are definitely recruiting a higher quality student. I believe that is a big reason that our drop-out rate is down significantly,” said Bone.

In addition to auditioning, the students and their parents had the opportunity to meet with the Music Department Faculty and take a tour of the GSC campus. The newly remodeled Science Hall was a big hit according to Bone. “These students and parents were impressed with the building. I am sure they will go back home and tell others about what we have here at GSC. I think this helps recruiting not only for the Music Department but for the college as a whole,” he said.

The parents and students were also treated to an-hour long concert by the GSC Choir, Chamber Singers, Jazz Band, Concert Band, Bluegrass Band, and Percussion Ensemble.

The GSC Fine Arts Department faculty will meet on February 15th to determine which of the students who auditioned will receive scholarships.
