Glenville State College Head Football Coach David Hutchison has announced the addition of three new football coaches to his staff. Blake Tasker will serve as Defensive Coordinator and Assistant Head Coach. Eric Smith has been hired as the Offensive Coordinator and Quarterback Coach. Adam Adkins has been hired as Offensive Line Coach. All three have Glenville ties and will be great assets to the program as well as to the College and community.
Blake Tasker comes back to GSC after spending last season in Morgantown, West Virginia on the defensive coaching staff of WVU. Tasker was an all conference linebacker for Glenville, playing from 1997-2000. After completing his playing career, he coached for the Pioneers for eight years, the last two as Defensive Coordinator before heading to WVU. His 2008 defense was the top ranked defense in the WVIAC and also was ranked the Top 25 Nationally. “We are obviously very excited to get Blake back in Glenville running our defense,” Stated Coach Hutchison. “He brings lots of knowledge, experience, and a tenacity that our program needs and is very fortunate to have.”
Eric Smith comes back to Glenville after spending the last four years working on the offensive staff for former Glenville Head Coach Rich Rodriguez at both West Virginia University and Michigan. Smith was the WVIAC player of the year in 2002 when he was the Quarterback for WV Tech. After his playing days he started his coaching career at Glenville State College in 2003 coaching the QB’s, WR’s and RB’s. He moved on to help coordinate the offenses at the University of Charleston in 2004, Pikeville College in 2005, and WV Tech in 2006. “Eric comes to us very highly recommended and from a great football family. Coach Smith will be a great addition to the Glenville family, you can tell he really knows football and loves the game,” said Hutchison.
Adam Adkins finished his degree in December, graduating from Glenville with a degree in Psychology and Sociology. As an Offensive Lineman for the Pioneers he received All Conference honors twice and was one of the Captains on the 2008 Conference Championship Team. This past season he was the Assistant Offensive Line Coach. “Adam played for me for two years and was a very good player. I think that he has the potential to be a great coach and is very excited about all the things he brings to our staff and our program,” Coach Hutchison stated.
These three additions will join the current staff which includes Defensive Line & Recruiting Coordinator Dave McEntire, Wide Receivers Coach Dwayne Thompson, Defensive Backs Coach Ola Adams, and Running Backs Coach Casey Stewart.
