Glenville, WV--The Glenville State College Pioneer Marching Band, under the direction of Lloyd Bone and field commander Brandi Horn, recently finished a very successful season. The marching band performed two shows at home football games: a “Favorites” show which featured favorite selections from the past two seasons which included “Tribute to America,” “Let there be Peace on Earth” and the finale to “New World Symphony” and “A Night at the Movies” featuring music from “Star Wars,” “The Sound of Music” and “Pirates of the Caribbean.” Also at home football games, the band (for recruiting purposes) hosted three high school bands: Summers County High School, Lincoln County High School and Gilmer County High School.

The Pioneer Marching Band was also very active outside of Gilmer County. During September, the drumline was the featured exhibition performance at the Nicolas County Band Spectacular where they performed for ten high school bands and hundreds of parents and community folks. This was a great recruiting opportunity for the entire GSC campus. During October, the band was the featured exhibition performance at the Ritchie County High School Band Festival where they performed for a very enthusiastic crowd of students and parents from ten high schools. In November, drumline captain and snare extraordinaire R.J. Cook performed at the Percussive Arts Society International Conference College Marching Festival Competition-Snare Drum. This was a huge honor and great exposure for GSC on the international level in percussion. In December, the band was the featured performance at the Gassaway Christmas Parade. They were also the first college/university band to perform at the Gassaway Christmas Parade. Hundreds of people turned out for the parade. The band received ecstatic reviews from countless Braxton County community members. Also, the band has already been asked by numerous Braxton County community members if they would perform an extra/special concert at the end of the parade next year as there is a large interest. Director Lloyd Bone said, “I am very proud of this group. It was a busy season and it was the most challenging music and drill that have been performed at GSC in many years. What they accomplished, especially for their size, was just fantastic. I was especially proud of the section leaders, Drum Major Brandi Horn and Drum Captain R.J. Cook. They were a joy and a blessing to work with.”
