GSC Pioneers Release 2010 Football Schedule

Head Coach Alan Fiddler and the Glenville State College Pioneer Football team have announced the finalized schedule for the 2010 football season. The schedule includes four opponents that were ranked in the final 2009 NCAA Division II poll, three of which played in the 2009 NCAA Division II Playoffs.

The 2010 Pioneer schedule has seven home games and just four road contests. Former WVIAC member West Virginia Tech will visit Morris Stadium to open the season at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 2nd. North Alabama, who lost in the Quarterfinals of the NCAA Division II Playoffs and finished the 2009 season ranked #5 nationally, will make their first ever trip to the Mountain State when they meet the Pioneers on Saturday, September 11th (TBA). North Alabama is coached by former Salem and Auburn coach and TV analyst Terry Bowden, son of former WVU and Florida State coach Bobby Bowden. The Pioneers will make a return trip to North Alabama during the 2011 season. On September 18th at 6:00 p.m. the Griffins of Seton Hill University come to town for the Pioneer’s WVIAC opener. The annual battle with Fairmont State University takes place at Morris Stadium on Saturday September 25th at 1:00 p.m. On Saturday, October 2nd at 1:00 p.m. the Pioneers will play their fifth consecutive home game as they host the University of North Carolina Pembroke who finished the 2009 season with a berth in the NCAA Division II Playoffs and ranked # 20 nationally. The first road trip of the season will find the Pioneers visiting West Liberty University on Saturday, October 9th (TBA). The Hilltoppers are the Defending WVIAC Champions who lost in the Quarterfinal round of the 2009 NCAA Division II Playoffs and were ranked 9th in the final Division II poll. Next up for the Pioneers will be a visit to Athens, West Virginia to battle the Concord University Mountain Lions on Saturday, October 16th (TBA). The Pioneers will return to Morris Stadium at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, October 23rd for Homecoming game against the Yellow Jackets of West Virginia State University. West Virginia Wesleyan College will host the Pioneers on Saturday October 30th (TBA). The University of Charleston will pay a visit to GSC on Saturday, November 6th at 1:00p.m. The Golden Eagles just missed the 2009 NCAA Division II Playoffs and end the season ranked # 25 nationally. The Pioneers will close the regular season on Saturday, November 13th (TBA) with a trip to perennial WVIAC power Shepherd University.

We hope to see Morris Stadium packed for what should be some exciting games against excellent opponents. Our Schedule is very challenging, but the team is excited and working hard to prepare themselves for another run at the WVIAC Championship,” said Glenville State College Head Coach Alan Fiddler.

The Pioneers finished the 2009 season with a 7-4 record and runner ups in the WVIAC. GSC won the WVIAC Football Championship in 2008.

The Pioneers will open up spring practice on Thursday, March 25. The annual Blue-White Spring Game will take place at 6pm on Thursday, April 22nd at Morris Stadium.
