History Professor, Dr. Arthur DeMatteo
Glenville, WV—Glenville State College Assistant Professor of History, Dr Arthur DeMatteo, will be speaking to the Gilmer County Historical Society on Thursday, March 27th, at 6:30 p.m. at the Holt House Annex in Glenville.

Dr. DeMatteo will be speaking about Coxey’s Army. “The General takes charge in Massillon: The brief, tumultuous mayoralty of Jacob S. Coxey” discusses the 1890s movement to fight unemployment. Twice Coxey led marches from Massillon, Ohio to the nation’s capitol, calling for Congress to designate funds to create jobs for the unemployed.

DeMatteo will be making the same presentation to the Massillon Genealogical Society on Wednesday, April 2nd at 7:00 p.m. in the Massillon Public Library Auditorium in Massillon, Ohio. He will also make the presentation at the Ohio Academy of History’s Annual Meeting at Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio on Friday, April 11th.
