CorrectionalOfficer.org badgeGLENVILLE, WV - Glenville State College's Criminal Justice Department has been ranked as the #1 Top School Supporting Careers in Corrections & Criminal Justice in West Virginia by CorrectionalOfficer.org.

The study analyzed 20 schools in West Virginia and ranked five based on student data, published surveys, and other school and career data collected from several sources which included the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) and The Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS).

"We are proud that Glenville State College has received this recognition. The findings reaffirm what our Criminal Justice Department professors and students already know, that our comprehensive and hands-on programs readily prepare GSC graduates for work or continued education after their graduation," said Glenville State College President Dr. Peter Barr.

"We are very proud of the Criminal Justice program at Glenville State College and it is a thrill to receive this honor. We have two concentrations in the program: Administration of Justice and Field Forensics. Our program is academically challenging with classes in corrections, law, forensics, and policing, as well as hands-on classes in interviewing and crime scene investigation. Under Professor Kelly Treece's guidance, GSC has won state crime scene competitions in the last three years. The associate's degree in criminal justice can be obtained completely online, and we will soon have the bachelor's degree completely online as well. Our online graduates have successfully used their degrees to obtain promotions in their agencies. Professor Art Trimble has been instrumental in the growth of the online program, recruiting students, and teaching classes. In addition, we have an active criminal justice honor fraternity and a shooting club. This May we will be visiting Scotland Yard and other law enforcement agencies in Great Britain. Already criminal justice is the largest single major on campus. Hopefully this recognition will help us grow even more," said Criminal Justice Department Chair and Assistant Professor of Criminal Justice Mark Mills.
