Glenville, WV—There were no empty seats at the ‘Wear Red Day’ luncheon held at the Glenville State College Mollohan Campus Community Center Ballroom on Friday. The event drew an overflow crowd of GSC faculty, staff, and students as well as members of the Glenville Community. “We were very happy with how many people from the community attended. It was another great example of GSC and the community supporting each other,” said Kipp Colvin, GSC Student Activities Director.

The luncheon was one of many held across the state and country promoted by the American Heart Association to raise awareness of women and heart disease. Colvin said, “Although Wear Red Day encourages women to learn about heart disease, it is also important for men to be aware as well and we had many men attend the luncheon.”

Barbara McKown, Community Outreach Coordinator for the Minnie Hamilton Heath System, was the guest speaker for the luncheon. “If you ask what the number one killer of women in America is, most people say cancer. It is very important for us to raise awareness that heart disease kills more women then cancer because there are many things that can be done to reduce a women’s risk,” said McKown. Her address to those in attendance discussed risk factors, symptoms, and prevention of heart disease.
