Tue Jul 1, 2008

The 2008 Gilmer County Relay for Life, sponsored by the American Cancer Society took place on Saturday, June 28th at Morris Stadium on the campus of Glenville State College. Afternoon rain storms interrupted and eventually shortened the event by three hours. However the Gilmer County Relay for Life still reached its goal by collecting over $41,000.

“Surpassing our goal, even though the event was crippled by the weather, is a testament to the caring and generosity of the entire Gilmer County community,” said Kipp Colvin, Activities Director for the Gilmer County Relay for Life. Colvin will be the Chairperson for next year’s event.

The thirty-six members of the Stars of Hope, the Glenville State College Relay for Life Team, raised $3,399.67. The total was almost $400 over their goal of $3,000. Team Captain, Mellisa Jedamski is very appreciative of everyone’s hard work. “I want to thank all the people that made baked goods, helped with the lunches, and donated items for the Silent Auction. I also want to thank Aramark for contributing a portion of the proceeds from their Mothers Day Dinner,” said Jedamski. The GSC Stars of Hope won first place in the Road to Recovery Race with their Dragon Car.
