Glenville, WV—Glenville State College has named Evan Joseph Aldridge as the Pioneer New GSC MascotMascot for the 2008-09 school year. The new Pioneer was introduced on Wednesday, April 23rd, during the campus picnic at the GSC Amphitheatre. Aldridge was selected after a rigorous process that included an application with an essay, references, and an interview with the selection committee.

“I am very proud to be the next GSC Pioneer. I grew up here in Gilmer County watching Pioneer football and basketball. I always thought that I would like to be the Pioneer Mascot. It should be really exciting. I can’t wait to get started,” said Aldridge.

Aldridge is a 2005 graduate of Gilmer County High School. He is the son of Tina Bryant of Summersville. Aldridge is currently completing his junior year at GSC where he is majoring in Behavioral Science with a concentration in Criminal Justice. He plans on becoming a West Virginia State Trooper after graduating from GSC.

As the GSC Pioneer, Aldridge’s duties will include attending all home football and basketball games, tournaments, and other school events. The Pioneer is charged with working with GSC students, faculty, and staff to positively promote and support the college. Aldridge wants to represent the college at more then just sporting events. “I want to get involved with the community too. I plan to do things like reading to kids at school,” he said.

The official uniform of the GSC Pioneer mascot is a set of buckskins, a coonskin hat, and a musket. “I really look forward to shooting the musket. I think that is one of the highlights of the job,” said Aldridge.

In addition to serving as the Pioneer mascot, Aldridge is the current President of Tau Kappa Epsilon (TKE) Fraternity, helps the GSC Softball team as a member of the field crew, is a member of the Gilmer County Volunteer Fire Department, and is a volunteer and chaperone for his church youth group.
