GSC Student Teachers Placed in Area Schools

Twenty-one seniors are currently completing their student teaching internships for Glenville State College.

Rose Flanagan Bender is student teaching in Social Studies (5-9) at Summersville Middle School with cooperating teacher Mary Hinkle and in Elementary Education and Early Education (PreK-K) at Summersville Elementary School under teacher Louise Molnar. Francis Fry and Dr. Michael Gherke are Bender’s GSC supervisors. Bender is the daughter of Robert and Dorothy Flanagan of Tioga, West Virginia. She and her husband James reside in Tioga with their five children.

Julie Marie Boyce is completing her student teaching in Elementary Education at Beaver Elementary School with teacher Julia Duffield and in Early Education (PreK-K) at Craigsville Elementary School under teacher Teresa Brown. Francis Fry is Boyce’s GSC supervisor. She is the daughter of Bruce and Marilyn Boyce of Fenwick, West Virginia.

John Mahlon Brown of Glenville is student teaching in Science (5-9) at Braxton County Middle School with cooperating teacher Marthena Bunn and in Math (5-9) under teacher Marinda Locke. Dr. Joe Evans and Dr. Joseph Wood are Brown’s GSC supervisors. He is the son of Paul and Carol Brown of Fayetteville.

Stacy Lynn Butler is student teaching in Social Studies (5-9) at Gilmer County High School with cooperating teacher Karen McClain and in Elementary Education at Sand Fork Elementary School with teacher Tracy Thorne. Mary Bland Strickland and Dr. Michael Gherke are Butler’s GSC supervisors. She and her husband Leon reside in Glenville with their three children.

Rebecca Jean Gray Chesser is student teaching in Elementary Education at Normantown Elementary School with teacher Tena Church and in English (5-9) at Ritchie County Middle School with cooperating teacher Sara Doak. Dr. Shara Curry and Dr. Gayle Burkowski are Chesser’s GSC supervisors. She is the daughter of Willard and Connie Gray of Cox’s Mills. She and her husband Warren reside in Smithville. Brittany Dawn Conrad is student teaching at Gilmer County High School in English (5-Adult) with teacher Tabby Beall and in Math (5-Adult) under teacher Julian Phares. Dr. Gayle Burkowski, Dr. Joseph Wood, and Mary Bland Strickland are Conrad’s GSC supervisors. She is the daughter of Kim and Tony Conrad of Orlando.

Jason Michael Cunningham is student teaching in Social Studies (5-Adult) at Calhoun County Middle/High School with cooperating teachers Brandi Richards and Dan Cosgrove. Dr. Michael Gherke and Dr. Shara Curry are Cunningham’s GSC supervisors. He is the son of Ralph and Deborah Cunningham of Grantsville.

Ryan David Deems is student teaching in Music (PreK-Adult) at Gilmer County High School with teacher Randall Cook and at Arnoldsburg Elementary School and Pleasant Hill Elementary school with cooperating teacher John Bugby. Dr. Teresa Dody, Dr. David Lewis, and Mary Bland Strickland are Deems’ GSC supervisors. He is the son of the late David Deems and Lynda and Steve Ryan of Bridgeport.

Allison Danielle Drane is student teaching in English (5-Adult) at Gilmer County High School with coordinating teachers Janette Ramezan and Rebecca Sprouse. Dr. Gayle Burkowski and Mary Bland Strickland are Drane’s GSC supervisors. She is the daughter of Anthony and Melanie Drane of Friendly, West Virginia.

Joseph Merle Evans is student teaching in Business Education at Gilmer County High School with cooperating teachers Lora Chapman and Sarah Dennison. Dr. John Taylor and Dr. Kevin Cain are Evans’ GSC supervisors. He is the son of Mike Evans of Charlotte, North Carolina and Reta Evans of Sutton.

Megan Kate Facemire is completing her student teaching in Elementary Education (K-6) at Flatwoods Elementary School with teacher Peggy Squires and in Multi-Categorical Special Education (K-6) at Clay Elementary School with teacher Rebecca Boggs. Barbara Adams and Tara Cosco are Facemire’s GSC supervisors. She is the daughter of Diane and Jeffery Facemire of Sutton.

Katrina Lynn Fitzwater is student teaching in Elementary Education (K-6) and Early Education (PreK-K) at Sand Fork Elementary School with cooperating teachers Tracy Thorne and Crystal Conrad. Shelly Ratliff is Fitzwater’s GSC supervisor. She is the daughter of Ronald and Sophia Fitzwater of Oak Hill.

Sheran Boone Helmick is student teaching at Flatwoods Elementary School in Early Education (PreK-K) and Elementary Education with cooperating teachers Michelle Wilson and Minnie Coffman. Shelly Ratliff and Barbara Adams are Helmick’s GSC supervisors. She and her husband Randy reside in Sutton with their son Ross.

Angela Rose King is student teaching in Elementary Education and Early Education (PreK-K) at Arnoldsburg Elementary School with cooperating teachers Shirley Hupp and Renita Benson. Shelly Ratliff is King’s GSC supervisor. She is the daughter of Roselee King of Chloe, West Virginia.

Lawrence Leroy Lauderman III is completing his student teaching in Social Studies (5-Adult) at Calhoun County Middle/High School with cooperating teachers Dan Cosgrove and Brandi Richards. Dr. Michael Gherke and Dr. Shara Curry are Lauderman’s GSC supervisors. He is the son of Lawrence and Vickie Lauderman of Williamstown, West Virginia.

Brianna Beth Lowther is student teaching in Early Education (PreK-K) at Sand Fork Elementary School with teacher Tonya Stewart and in Elementary Education (K-6) at Glenville Elementary School with teacher Nancy McVaney. Shelly Ratliff is Lowther’s GSC supervisor. She is the daughter of Joe and Kim Lowther of Linn.

Shelly Ratliff is Murphy’s GSC supervisor. She is the daughter of Dusty and Elaine Murphy of Glouster, Ohio.

Betsy Marie Nelson is student teaching in Early Education (PreK-K) at Harrisville Elementary School under teacher Kathy White and in Elementary Education at Glenville Elementary School with cooperating teacher Susan Chapman. Shelly Ratliff is Nelson’s GSC supervisor. She is the daughter of Denny and Kay Nelson of Nutter Farm in Nicholas County.

Laural Anne Smith is student teaching in Elementary Education (K-6) at Glenville Elementary School with teacher Kathy Minigh and in Multi-Categorical Special Education (K-6) at Braxton County Middle School with cooperating teacher Stella Vartheyenos. Tara Cosco is Smith’s GSC supervisor. She is the daughter of Ken and Marcia Smith of Frederick, Maryland.

Christopher Richard Summers is student teaching in English (5-Adult) at Braxton County Middle School with teacher Tina Knight and at Braxton County High School with cooperating teacher Grace Wine. Dr. John Taylor and Dr. Gayle Burkowski are Summers’ GSC supervisors. He is the son of Billy and Deborah Summers of Barboursville, West Virginia.

Timmothy Scott Walker of Coolville, Ohio is student teaching in Math (5-Adult) at Gilmer County High School with teacher Rick Kinder. Dr. Joseph Wood and Mary Bland Strickland are Walkers’ GSC supervisors. He is the son of Dave and Charlotte Walker of Coolville.

Upon successful completion of their student teaching internships, these students are scheduled to receive their Bachelor of Arts Degree in Education during the 137th Glenville State College Commencement ceremony on Saturday, May 14, 2011.
