GSC Students Recognized at Honors Convocation

The 2010 Glenville State College Honors Convocation has been held to recognize the top students of the school year. The annual event took place on Thursday, April 15th in the GSC Mollohan Campus Community Center Ballroom. “These are the students who are moving this college forward by shaping their departments with their academic achievements,” said GSC Provost and Senior Vice President Dr. Kathy Butler.

GSC Department of Business Chairperson Dr. Sherry Jones presented awards to the following Business Administration Majors: Senior Management Major Jerrica Caudill of Wallback (Clay County), Senior Marketing/Accounting Major Misty DeLong of Philippi (Barbour County), Senior Marketing/Resort Area Management Major Zeb Ritchie of Grantsville (Calhoun County), Senior Accounting/Management Major Brittany Smith of Franklin (Pendleton County), and Senior Computer and Information Systems Major Adam Williams of Weston (Lewis County).

GSC Department of Criminal Justice Chairperson Dr. Jami Myers presented awards to the following: Senior Criminal Justice Major Brittany Lilly of Gassaway (Braxton County) and Senior Criminal Justice Major Kayla Pharis of Belington (Barbour County).

GSC Department of Education Assistant Professor of Early Education/Director of Field Experiences Connie Stout presented awards to the following: Senior Early Education (PreK-K)/Elementary Education (K-6) Major Kindra Davis of Parkersburg (Wood County), Senior Multi-Categorical (K-Adult)/Elementary Education (K-6) Major Megan Facemire of Sutton (Braxton County), Senior Multi-Categorical (K-6)/Elementary Education (K-6) Major Jo Autumn Hill of Green Bank (Pocahontas County), and Senior Mathematics (5-Adult)/Music (PreK-Adult) Major Lori Ware of Procious (Clay County).

GSC Department of English Chairperson Wayne de Rosset presented an award to Senior English (5-Adult)/Math (5-Adult) Major Brittany Conrad of Orlando (Braxton County).

GSC Department of Fine Arts Associate Professor of Music John McKinney presented an award to Senior Music (PreK-Adult) Major Stephanie Sumner of Glenville (Gilmer County).

GSC Department of Land Resources Chairperson Rick Sypolt presented awards to the following Natural Resource Management Majors: Junior Environmental Technology/Landman Major Marlon Henry of Montrose (Randolph County), Senior Applied Science Major Rachel Poling of Buckhannon (Upshur County), and Senior Forest Technology/Environmental Science Major Melissa Shockey of Augusta (Hampshire County).

GSC Department of Science and Mathematics Chairperson Dr. Alison Witte presented awards to the following students: Senior General Science (5-9)/General Mathematics Algebra-I (5-9) Major John Brown of Glenville (Gilmer County), Senior Chemistry-Physics (9-Adult)/General Mathematics Algebra-I (5-9)/General Science (5-9) Major Jacob Myer of West Union (Doddridge County), and Senior Biology/Chemistry Major Jane Oosthuizen of Parkersburg (Wood County).

GSC Department of Social Science Chairperson presented awards to the following students: Junior History/Political Science Major Gregory Arnott of Saint Marys (Pleasants County), Senior Social Studies (5-Adult) Major Richard Burkowski of Glenville (Gilmer County), Senior Psychology/Sociology Major Jessica Bush of Ireland (Lewis County), and Senior Psychology/Sociology Major Zamira Heard of Flatwoods (Braxton County).

GSC Dean of Student Affairs Jerry Burkhammer presented Chi Zeta Pi President Katrina Fitzwater of Oak Hill (Fayette County) with the Outstanding Student Organization Leader award. Her sorority Chi Zeta Pi received the Outstanding Student Organization of the Year award.
