Glenville State College Assistant Professor of Music and Fine Arts Department Chair, Lloyd E. Bone Jr., was the guest speaker and presenter at the Liberty-Raleigh High

Band Banquet

School Band Banquet held on Friday, May 23rd. Bone was invited to participate in the event by Liberty-Raleigh High School Band Director Jeremy Rodriquez, a 2007 graduate of Glenville State College.

The Liberty-Raleigh High School Band, from Raleigh County, West Virginia, has visited the GSC campus twice this school year, once at a home football game where they played in the stands with the GSC Marching Band and they were guests for one of the Percussion Ensemble concerts. GSC will be hosting the Liberty-Raleigh High School Band members for their summer band camp in late July.

During the banquet, Professor Bone presented two high school students with scholarships to help them with the cost of band camp. He also presented some other gifts to deserving band members including GSC jump drives, T-shirts, and sweat shirts.

Bone spoke to those attending the banquet about the opportunities offered by the Glenville State Fine Arts Department and the wide variety of programs at GSC as a whole. “This is an area that is predominately dominated by Concord University, so it was good to go in to their back yard and do some recruiting. There were several parents and students who said they were going to come and check us out,” said Bone.

The relationship with the Liberty-Raleigh High School Band is paying off for Glenville State College as two band members will be in the GSC Band next year.
