GLENVILLE, WV – Glenville State University’s Department of Land Resources held its Inaugural Alumni Speaker Series, which featured Dr. Jesse De La Cruz, a 2009 graduate of the department. The event took place on Tuesday, March 24th in the Waco Center.
Dr. De La Cruz currently serves as a Research Scientist with the Conservation Management Institute in the Department of Fish and Wildlife Conservation at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. He shared insights from various aspects of his research on the endangered northern long-eared bat, highlighting important conservation strategies and field work discovers. De La Cruz also spoke on the conservation methods and current assessments on the brown and tricolored bats, and emphasized the importance of understanding the causes for the depopulation within the various species caused by a disease known as, White-nose syndrome.
This seminar marked the first event in the Land Resources Alumni Speaker Series, which is designed to connect current students with accomplished graduates who were making meaningful contributions in their fields. Attendees had the opportunity to engage with Dr. De La Cruz and learned from his expertise not only with is work on bats, but wildlife conservation and research over.
This seminar was sponsored by the EQT Foundation. The Department of Land Resources encouraged all students, faculty, and community members interested in wildlife, conservation, and applied research to attend.
