Glenville State University, West Virginia National Guard Sign Beckstrom-Wolfe Educational Partnership

GLENVILLE, W.Va. — Glenville State University and the West Virginia National Guard have formalized a new educational partnership that expands access to higher education opportunities for service members, veterans, and their families pursuing Criminal Justice degrees.

Governor Patrick Morrisey signed the Beckstrom-Wolfe Educational Partnership memorandum of understanding (MOU) on June 15 alongside Major General James Seward, Adjutant General of the West Virginia National Guard, and Glenville State University President Dr. Mark A. Manchin.

The agreement provides a 20 percent tuition discount for eligible active members of the West Virginia National Guard, honorably discharged veterans, and their immediate family members enrolled in Glenville State University's online Associate or Bachelor of Science degree programs in Criminal Justice.

"West Virginia owes a debt of gratitude to the men and women who answer the call to serve," said Governor Patrick Morrisey. "This partnership honors that service by expanding educational opportunities for Guard members, veterans, and their families while helping prepare the next generation of public servants and law enforcement professionals."

The partnership is named in honor of Specialist Sarah Beckstrom, West Virginia National Guard soldier and Glenville State University student who was killed during a terrorist ambush in Washington, D.C., and Staff Sergeant Andrew Wolfe, who was wounded during the same attack. The MOU serves as a lasting tribute to their sacrifice while creating new opportunities for military families throughout West Virginia.

"We are proud to partner with the West Virginia National Guard to support those who have dedicated themselves to serving our state and nation," said President Mark A. Manchin. "This agreement reflects Glenville State University's commitment to providing accessible, high-quality educational opportunities while honoring the sacrifices made by our military members and their families."

Dr. Robert Rice, Assistant Professor of Criminal Justice at Glenville State University, emphasized the significance of the agreement.

"The Beckstrom-Wolfe MOU is historic because it connects education with remembrance,” Dr. Rice said. “It ensures that the sacrifice of Sarah Beckstrom and Andrew Wolfe will not be forgotten, but will instead continue to open doors for students, service members, veterans, and their families” he added.
