GLENVILLE, WV – Stephany Harper, Financial Aid Director at Glenville State College (GSC), has been named the 2021 Staff Employee of the Year.

Nominations for the award noted that Harper, “always goes above and beyond what is asked of her” and said that she is always available to assist students in any way possible, day or night. Another nomination said that she, “dedicates all of her time and effort to her job performance and making sure our students are successful not only with their financial aid, but in their college careers as well.”

“It was a huge surprise,” Harper said of receiving the award. “I am so grateful and so proud to have earned this recognition. It means so much to me to know that not only my work, but the work of my staff, is seen and heard across campus.”

Harper, originally from Little Birch, West Virginia, came to GSC as a student in the fall of 2007 after graduating from Braxton County High School. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Business Administration degree in Accounting and Management from Glenville State in December 2012. After graduation, she took a Financial Aid Assistant position on campus. Harper became Financial Aid Director in December 2019.

She says that her favorite parts about working at Glenville State are the people she works with and being able to help students. “GSC is like family! Plus, anytime I’m able to assist students, make a difference, and watch them succeed is always satisfying and makes my hard work and dedication worth it.”

In her free time, she enjoys getting outside, traveling, dancing, cooking, and spending time with her family.

Harper becomes the 32nd recipient of the staff recognition award that has been presented at GSC since 1986. Names of the honorees are displayed on a permanent plaque in the Heflin Administration Building.
