Mountainaires to Sing at Glenville State College

The Mountainaires, a Barbershop Chorus that also features Chapter Barbershop Quartets, will perform at Glenville State College on Monday, November 13, at 8:00 p.m.. This will be the group’s first performance at the GSC Fine Arts Center.

The chords will ring as old favorites such as “Bye Bye Blues” and “Up the Lazy River” are sung. A favorite time in Mountainaire shows is the “Salute to America” and the spirituals “Swing Low, Sweet Chariot” and “I’ll Fly Away.”

The Mountainaires, under the direction of Dan Tice, perform frequently throughout West Virginia, Ohio and Pennsylvania. They have sung the National Anthem for a Pittsburgh Pirates baseball game, annually at WVU basketball games, and at numerous community concerts throughout the region. They are consistently ranked in the top ten of the more than ninety Barbershop Choruses in the Johnny Appleseed District of the Barbershop Society.

Barbershop style singing dates to the late 1800’s and features four part men’s acappella harmony. In addition to singing songs from that era, many more contemporary songs are sung in that style. The Mountainaires take pride in providing family entertainment that leaves audiences humming tunes they forgot they knew.

Admission to this show at GSC is $10 for the general public and free for Glenville State students, faculty, and staff. For more information, call the GSC Fine Arts Center at (304) 462-4130.Mountainaires
