New Provost Hired at GSC

Glenville State College President Dr. Peter Barr is pleased to announce that Dr. John M. Peek has accepted the Provost and Senior Vice President position. “In lengthy conversations with the Search Committee and me, Dr. Peek has described his proven record of accomplishment and expressed his eagerness to participate in the academic progress of our College. I compliment the Search Committee for performing exemplary work in reviewing more than one-hundred applications and bringing well-qualified individuals to campus for visits. I am convinced that Dr. Peek will prove to be an excellent choice,” said Barr.

Dr. Peek comes to Glenville State College from Lyon College in Batesville, Arkansas where, for the past ten years, he was Vice President for Academic Services and Dean of the Faculty and Professor of Political Science. Prior to his tenure at Lyon College, Peek taught at Centenary College of Louisiana, Lehigh University of Pennsylvania, and Jobu College of Japan. He is a widely recognized scholar of Asian politics.

I am thankful for this wonderful opportunity,” said Peek.

Dr. Peek earned his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science in 1976 and his Master’s Degree in Political Science in 1977, both from the University of Northern Iowa. In 1985, he was awarded a Doctorate in Political Science from the University of Kansas.

He and his wife Mieko have two sons; Ken, a consultant who graduated from Trinity University, and Kevin who is graduating with the class of 2010 from Hendrix College.

Peek will assume his duties as the new Provost and Senior Vice President at Glenville State College on July 1, 2010. He will be taking over for Dr. Kathy Butler who has accepted a position with the West Virginia Higher Education Policy Commission.
