GLENVILLE, WV – Introduced late in the fall semester, the Pioneer Pantry and Career Closet were established as a resource to provide food, personal hygiene items, cleaning supplies, school supplies, and casual and business professional clothing to Glenville State College students who need it – all at no cost. Both the Pioneer Pantry and Career Closet have relied on generous donations from the campus and community to stock the shelves.

To assist in establishing the Pioneer Pantry, the GSC Foundation presented a $2,000 donation during the holiday season in honor of all GSC employees. The Foundation also matched additional employee donations of $5 or more, up to another $1,000. In February, members of the Glenville Otterbein Church made a generous donation of food and supplies to the Pioneer Pantry and in March, GSC’s Hidden Promise Scholars Program partnered with the “Heart of the CommUnity” group to hold an on-campus food drive to collect items for the pantry as well. Several individual faculty, staff, and alumni have also made donations.

Numerous students have been able to take advantage of the free items available through the Pioneer Pantry and Career Closet since it opened. The Pioneer Pantry continues to provide resources to students residing on campus during the COVID-19 pandemic to assist in limiting their need to leave campus to shop for essential items.

GSC is grateful to members of the community who have provided items to keep the pantry and closet stocked. The Career Closet is not currently accepting donations, but if you or an organization you are affiliated with would like to find out more about making a donation to the Pioneer Pantry, call (304) 462-6388.
