The Pioneer Shooting Club hosted its annual Breast Cancer Awareness Auction on Tuesday, October 7th. With a great turnout of bidders and over 25 items auctioned off, the event raised funds for cancer patients within the Gilmer County community.

With the most successful auction to date, the Pioneer Shooting Club has donated $1,500 to the First Baptist Church of Glenville Cancer Fund. The check ceremony was held on Tuesday, November 4th, at the First Baptist Church of Glenville, with representatives including Pastor John Putnam present for the check reception and offering encouraging words.

“It has been a wonderful evolution over the past five years to see our students identify and grow such a fun and vital event to help others in our community,” said Club Advisor and Associate Professor of Criminal Justice Dr. Donal Hardin. “The Pioneer Shooting Club Breast Cancer Awareness Auction demonstrates the best attributes and values of a Pioneer, and the spirit of community, collaboration, and concern for the well-being of others that we teach and foster at GSU and instill in our Criminal Justice students,” Hardin added.

“Serving the community has always been an essential part of my leadership philosophy, but having a close family member currently battling mesothelioma makes this cause deeply personal to me,” said Emilee Teter, President of the Pioneer Shooting Club. “I want to extend my heartfelt gratitude to all of my club members. This was truly a collective effort and without their dedication and support, organizing such a successful event would not have been possible.”

A special thank you goes to Mrs. Nasia Butcher, who raised the bar for elegance, presentation, and event planning by helping to make this year’s auction the highest-grossing in the events five-year history. Mrs. Butcher continues her phenomenal legacy as a champion of GSU success and students.

To date, this event has assisted club in donating over $5,000 to the First Baptist Church of Glenville Cancer Fund, directly impacting and assisting the citizens in Gilmer County. The Pioneer Shooting Club would once again like to thank everyone who has shown their support as they look forward to next year’s auction.
